2009 Frist Humanitarian Award Winners Announced

Sun City Center, Florida - South Bay Hospital has bestowed its highly honored Frist Humanitarian Award upon three winners, A. Ghassan Ksaibati, MD, Cindy Smith, RN and Juanita Moon.

The Frist Humanitarian Awards were created in 1971 to honor outstanding individuals for their humanitarian and volunteer activities. This award recognizes individuals whose daily dedication and care giving epitomize the highest standards of quality and personal commitment and are given annually in recognition of the humanitarian spirit and philanthropic work of the late Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Sr., a founder of HCA.

The 2009 Frist Physician Humanitarian Award Winner is A. Ghassan Ksaibati, MD. Dr. Ksaibati is the Emergency Department Medical Director at South Bay Hospital and not only has made an impact on emergency care, but the community as a whole. In addition serving on the Medical Executive Committee, he volunteers on numerous other hospital committees and serves as the Volunteer Medical Director of the Sun City Center Emergency Squad. In addition to his avid commitment to his patients, he also volunteers to assist Red Crescent, the Middle Eastern equivalent to the Red Cross. Recently, he helped organize the collection of medication from private physicians offices to be donated to relief efforts throughout the Middle East and the rest of the world.

South Bay Hospital’s 2009 Frist Employee Humanitarian Award winner is Cindy Smith, RN. Smith works in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is known for her pleasant demeanor, clinical nursing expertise, and demonstration of our Standards of Behaviors when interacting with patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers. Her dedication to volunteerism has positioned her as an exemplarily member of the community.  Cindy volunteers for Sun City Security, is a member of the Florida Medical Reserve Corp which volunteers to staff during medical emergencies, and she regularly volunteers to drive Sun City residents to their physician and outpatient appointments.

South Bay Hospital also honors the 2009 Frist Volunteer Humanitarian Award, Juanita Moon. Juanita is always willing to offer her assistance and has an excellent rapport with the many people served by our hospital including patients, physicians, employees, families and vendors. When not volunteering at South Bay Hospital, she can be found in the community assisting her neighbors in need such as providing clothing or food. Juanita is the “Grandmother” of her neighborhood and throws wonderful tea parties for her neighborhood children, where they get dressed up and everyone has so much fun including Juanita.  She truly exemplifies the humanitarian spirit.
