New Minimally Invasive Procedure- Anterior Approach Hip Replacement
South Bay Hospital now offers a new and proven technique to minimize pain and recovery time for hip replacement surgery. The Anterior Approach Hip Replacement uses a muscle sparing approach that allows the surgeon to replace the hip joint without detaching any muscles or tendons from the bone.
The Anterior Approach Hip Replacement has many benefits over conventional treatment options:
- Smaller incision creating reduced pain
- Shorter hospital stay
- Faster rehabilitation
- Earlier return to daily activities
- Lower risk of dislocation

Pre-Hab: Preparing Patients for Surgery
South Bay Hospital’s new pre-hab program prepares patients for hip and knee surgery by:
- improving muscle strength
- improving flexibility
- increasing cardiopulmonary endurance prior to surgery
- correcting muscle imbalances around the joints
- improving nutrition for healing and weight loss
The aim of the program is to minimize injury and increase physical and emotional readiness for surgery.
To participate in pre-hab, a patient must obtain a prescription from their attending surgeon four to six weeks prior to surgery. The patient is then seen by a Registered Physical Therapist and Licensed Dietician for a physical assessment, physical therapy and pre-surgical education.
